To maintain proper maintenance air conditioners need yearly maintenance, so that your air conditioning will work better, more economically and last longer. Here are some steps and tips on how to maintain the air conditioner

  1. Before starting or before you take away any of the access panels or attempt to perform any maintenance procedures please make sure to disconnects all the electrical power to the unit.
  2. When you are carrying parts or reach into units you should be careful. Some metal parts can cause ruthless injury especially if some of them have very sharp edges.
  3. You should follow all safety precautions suggested by the manufacturer.
  4. Don’t do it if you are doubt or if it seems dangerous, use your common sense.
  5. Every 2 to 4 weeks you must check the return air filter in your air conditioning system. It is one way in saving your money, because once the filter is clean your unit can operate properly and its life span is last longer.
  6. The outdoor condensing unit must clean and clear from any debris. To avoid obstructing the outdoor coil and causing expensive repairs you must keep any leaves, brushes, plants and cut grass. Before opening it up make sure that both the unit and the thermostat and the breaker and or disconnect near the unit.
  7. Must check the outdoor unit to see it is in a level position, once it is not level the compressor and fan motors may in need to very expensive replacement or repairs. It will also help the water drain out of the unit if the unit should be level.
  8. Washing the coil of your outdoor condensing unit with soap and water. It is required to do at least one a month during cooling season and more often if you are living near the ocean.
  9. Return air must clean and dust off, and keep it free for obstructions. By using vacuum cleaner and soft brush it will remove the dust from outside and inside the grill to help the filter last longer.
